Suffering from Crohn’s Disease?
Crohn’s Disease: What is it?
Causing inflammation to your digestive tract, Crohn’s disease is a type of irritable bowel disease (IBD). Not to get confused with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), as Crohn’s disease is a chronic illness involving inflammation to intestinal tracks, while IBS affects the muscle contractions of the bowel. Crohn’s can affect anywhere within the GI tract, from mouth to anus, can appear in “patches” along the GI tract, and can occur at any age.
Crohn’s Disease Flares
The symptoms of Crohn’s disease can vary between mild to severe, and usually appear gradually. Though, some symptoms may appear suddenly without warning, hence the term “flare ups”. Flare up symptoms may include:
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Mouth sores
- Abdominal pain
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
There are several symptoms that can cause various complications including bowel obstructions, ulcers, blood clots, etc. Though most complications don’t occur unless a person is high risk (age, smoker, family history, etc.).
