Acupuncture for Headaches and Migraines in Augusta
Individual assessment • Clear expectations • Care alongside your medical treatment
When headaches keep interrupting your day
Start by understanding the pattern
Headaches have different causes. Dr. Eric Sherrell, DACM, L.Ac., reviews your history, any diagnosis, and the symptoms that accompany your headaches before discussing acupuncture.
Dull, aching pain behind the eyes
Tenderness/tightness in the neck and shoulder
Feelings of pressure/tightness across the forehead, behind the eyes, sides and back of head.

What we want to know about your headaches
How often do they happen? How long do they last? Have you noticed a connection with sleep, stress, your routine, or medication use? Bring a headache diary if you have one and a list of your current treatments.
A sudden, unusually severe headache or a headache with new neurological symptoms needs urgent medical assessment, not a routine acupuncture appointment.
Considering acupuncture as part of your care
Research suggests acupuncture may help reduce headache frequency for some people with tension headaches or migraine. Results vary. Keep your clinician involved and do not stop or change prescribed medication on your own.
How the first visit works
We discuss how headaches affect your day and what you have already tried. Allow about an hour for a full health history and exam. Treatment is not included in that first visit.
If acupuncture is appropriate, we explain the proposed course of treatments and how progress will be assessed. Read what to expect at your first visit.
A plan based on your assessment
Your plan depends on your history, symptoms, and goals. Other services are discussed individually; there is no standard package that suits everyone. Any herbal recommendations require a review of medications and suitability.
