We help those with Age-related Macular Degeneration (wet and dry AMD)
One of the major causes of irreversible blindness is AMD, millions of Americans suffer from this condition every year. It is clear that conventional medicine has not found a truly effective treatment for AMD. We hear our new patients say that their eye doctors have told them that the decline in their vision was natural and that it will only get worse. At Augusta Acupuncture Clinic we created a custom health plan that avoid medications, avoid surgery, and does more than just “wait and lets see what happens…?
We understand that AMD is a cardio vascular disease.
In order to maximize your results we have to treat your entire body, not just your eyeball. We must correct the entire body and ensure everything is “connected properly.” Your vision can be influenced by all organs in the body. According to Chinese Medicine, most eye disease is related to Liver and/or Kidney dysfunction. Our in-depth exams and testing is unlike any other. We actually want to understand WHY your body is having complications and not just to give you a “quick fix.”
At Augusta Acupuncture Clinic, our mission is to help you live a healthy life. Not just to “feel better” we want you to ACTUALLY BE BETTER!
What is the difference between wet and dry MD?
There are two types of ARMD, wet and dry. 90% percent of people with AMD have the dry type, characterized by small yellow spots called drusen, which form under the macula. The drusen slowly damage the cells of the macula and vision loss progresses.
It seems as though approximately 10% of people with dry AMD progress to a more serious condition called wet AMD.
Here, abnormal blood vessels begin to grow toward the macula in an attempt to nourish it. These new vessels are often frail and may leak or cause a hemorrhage. The blood and fluids that leak from these vessels can be very damaging to the macula, causing rapid and severe vision loss. Conventional medicine most often uses laser eye surgery to “patch” the leaky vessels.
This is like soldering an old pipe. You can only patch it up so much. Chinese medicine seeks to repair the integrity of the whole structure and can be highly effective in doing so.
