What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance. Click HERE to learn more about our acupuncture process.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is thousands of years old and has changed little over the centuries. Its basic concept is that a vital force of life, called Qi, surges through the body.  Any imbalance to Qi can cause disease and illness. This imbalance is most commonly thought to be caused by an alteration in the opposite and complementary forces that make up the Qi. These are called yin and yang.

Ancient Chinese believed that humans are microcosms of the larger surrounding universe, and are interconnected with nature and subject to its forces. Balance between health and disease is a key concept. TCM treatment seeks to restore this balance through treatment specific to the individual. Click HERE to learn more about TCM.

After being wounded in Iraq, I suffer from severe neck and back pain and pain shooting down my legs. I was on some pretty strong narcotics for it and really limited my activity. Right after my first week of treatment, I didn’t need medicine anymore and my activity is through the roof! I’m not in pain. I can move freely, I’m back in the gym. Life is 100% better!

Acupuncture has helped me be able to relax, lower my blood pressure, decrease my headaches, and I feel better overall. Acupuncture has made my body be more relaxed during the day. My days are better. I would absolutely recommend Augusta Acupuncture Clinic, especially after Dr. Sherrell was my Doctor while serving in the military.

After 2 ½ weeks of treatment, I have pretty much reduced the pain to ZERO! Before I could barely eat, brush my teeth, wipe my face or even take a shower and now I can do all those things. The staff here is awesome! I really feel like the doctor here knows what he’s doing and really does care. I feel like it has improved my life and can only help others.

I would recommend this place for everyone. They are like family now since I have been going here since 2022. I tell everyone to try acupuncture. Any issue that you’re having medically with your body, Dr Sherrell will always help you with it. He always helps to pin point the body pains. Augusta Acupuncture is the best choice to go to. They are very straightforward here and I feel like they always aim to give me a relaxed treatment. It has been the best choice for my health. My headaches have changed tremendously.

I have been experiencing lower back pain for many years. Years as an Active Duty Army Soldier and years since my retirement in 2009. I’ve received Chiropractic care and massages throughput the years with just temporary pain relief. This care and regular dosages of Ibuprofen, I’ve lived with the pain for all these years. Recently a close friend of mine that was experiencing similar back pain, recommended acupuncture treatments. He said it had worked wonders for him. I requested acupuncture care through the VA and was promptly approved. Six weeks ago I started seeing Dr. Sherrell at Augusta Acupuncture Clinic. The results have been amazing!! I’m experiencing little to no back pain and this is with my 4 days a week workout routine. I would recommend acupuncture treatments for anyone dealing with long term pain. Although I’m being seen for lower back pain, the treatments has helped me with periodic neck and shoulder pain. It has also helped me with restful nights sleep. Dr Sherrell is very engaged with your treatment and communicate with you to make sure your problem areas are being addressed.Thank you Dr Sherrell and the entire staff at AAC.

I was always skeptical about procedures like acupuncture however upon my first visit and getting one on one time to sit and talk to Dr Sherrell he out my mind at ease. Knowing that he also practiced at Eisenhower Army hospital was a plus as I am a veteran as well. Since my treatments with acupuncture I’ve been able to come off medicines I was previously prescribed. My lower back and hip pains have gotten so much better as well as my migraine issues. I am a believer that this form of treatment works and I’m more than satisfied with my improved health!

Wonderful experience. I've been a patient for 5 months. I had a lot of hip / sciatic pain from delivering my second child. Tried chiropractic and physical therapy. Both helped but didn't resolve the issue, and I was frustrated with not being as active as I'd like. Acupuncture with Dr. Sherrell has helped immensely. My hip pain is gone, and only comes back when I'm really pushing myself. I appreciate that Dr. Sherrell is realistic with his treatment plans and expectations. Acupuncture is a process to better health, not a one shot cure all (which of course don't exist). While my hip feels "healed," the nerve damage isn't magically gone. I still have other joint issues, but I'm able to enjoy being more active with my kids. Personally, I feel that the treatment environment at Augusta Acupuncture has also helped my mental well being. Even when I have down time I'm answering emails, planning get togethers, working on a project. When I go for acupuncture it's the only time I'm forced to truly be still. I can't say enough for what this mental "reset" does for my stress levels.

As a marine veteran with scars, I refuse to believe drugs are the answer to our pain. For myself, it's migraines, headaches, back injuries, sciatica pain, and over stress from lack of sleep.I come to this clinic specifically for the secure feeling of the treatment process, it's different form anywhere else I've been, but the same. There is a trained professional, there is a specific routine, there are treatment chairs. If you want private treatment, hire a private Doctor.I visit weekly for pain management. For me, it's not a cure to the problem. However, it is relief of my symptoms, I now live with less pain and migraines than I have for the past 14 years.I would encourage anyone with actual real pain to consider a consultation, it might be for you and it might not be. If you never ask you'll never know.(Photo is not of the clinic)

Been seeing Dr. Sherrell for almost 3 years as part of my pain management from the VA and cannot say enough great things about what he provides his patients. With my low back, headaches and muscle tightness managed, I am able to enjoy my life with minimal pain, and if it starts getting bad in between visits, I can always call to be seen sooner. He cares about his patients and their well-being and always has a smile to make you feel welcomed. He's the go-to in Augusta for acupuncture treatment.
